Cable Installation and Maintenance Magazine recently published an article jointly written by John Hoover (ÐÓ°ÉPro Marketing Director) and Jimmy Gagnon (EXFO Business Development Team Leader) titled ““ that details how Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) provides students with reliable high-speed connectivity and complete mobility at their homes away from home.
This article features Ryerson’s first 2016 Optical LAN (OLAN) installment at (14-floor residence hall, built 1991, with 565 rooms), which was a brownfield renovation. Plus, Ryerson’s second more recent greenfield deployment of OLAN at the new (18-floor residence hall, plus mixed-use university resources including classrooms, built 2019).
The ÐÓ°ÉPro Optical LAN has been operational going on 5-years and has surpassed the University’s network modernization project goals based on the following successes:
- Converged network services over fiber-based backbone
- Minimizes initial capital investment for the renovation of an existing building and new construction greenfield building
- Small footprint conserves physical space into buildings with limited pathways and telecom rooms
- Optimized electronics, powering and HVAC for reduced energy and ongoing maintenance savings
- Centralized management of the network to lowers daily operations time and money for the IT staff
